For me, if the game mechanics are fun, I will have fun with the game. A great story, chars, dialogs and atmosphere adds a level of immersion which is nice to have and makes the experience even greater, but it's not a must have.
The Last of Us sets a new standard on a immersion level and as long as it's fresh in my mind it'll be difficult to feel what I felt with this game, but in terms of gameplay, TLoU is also great, but nothing too revolutionary to devalue the other games.
It also takes several games introducing a new way to play so that some games aren't enjoyable anymore. The PS1 games are almost unplayable for me now, and PS2 games have a lot of things which are annoying because I'm used to this gen standards.
