I agree that the majority of wii owners have no clue about what the Wii U is. Even knowledgeable ones have no idea the Wii U is out lol. One of my mates come over last week and was like when did u get a black wii, im like its a wii u. He was like what is that. I said Nintendo's next gen console he said oh...

I think they shoudl ave called it Wii 2 as well

or Wii2U

so the console can be used by all (we) to just you (the core gamer) lol.

the fact that even after you're friend found out he still didnt care. TO me that is the issue, people just dont CARE

THIS is the issue for sure.   I know lots of Wii owners (or previous Wii owners) and none of them are interested in WiiU.  They all know its a new system but they just don't care.    There is just nothing interesting about WiiU itself.   I'm as big a Wii fan as they come and they still can't sell me on WiiU.

What will sell it (or any system) is great games.   Especially great games that take our favorite franchises to all new levels (isn't this the point of new hardware?).  Or all-new interesting great games that gives gameplay in a new way. But aside from being in HD with some trivial gamepad functionality all the currently available or upcoming games look like last gen games (and most in fact are last-gen ports let's face it).     It doesn't 'feel' next-gen.

And until Nintendo puts out a game that makes people say, 'wow, I could never do this before!' It'll continue to 'feel' last gen.  Apparently NintendoLand was not that game.
