biggest mistake was making wii weak with no online support, they missed out on whole new generation of gaming, the hardware was to weak to get third party support and no online support meaning most third party franchises and online gaming never got established with nintendo wii, now nintendo is trying to play catch up but it's far too late for them.

I find this to be an interesting observation.  It does seem like the Wii's early success may have benefited from the fact that the world at the time was still in transition to the HD format and online console gaming.  However, as more gamers in the market adopted HDTVs and started appreciated online games (coinciding with third-party developers shifting focus to HD games with online functionality), perhaps many shifted to the 360 and PS3.

Ironically, despite the Wii U being the first next-generation console in the market, they're sort of late to the party in regards to HD and online gaming, and perhaps its slow start may in part be attributed to this.  I'm not sure if I agree that the Wii was a mistake, however, since it was still a huge success.  With that said, I think (or at least hope) the Wii U will start picking up some pace when more games are released.
