To me, the way they're marketing this as a portable PS4 tells me they've given up on the Vita's prospects as a standalone unit. And I can't see many people spending $250 on top of the $400 for the PS4 + $60 Games + PS Plus for this. At best, this will be a value add for people who have a Vita already and want a PS4. But that's not a big enough group of people to justify the approach. 

The Vita needs to be a strong dedicated gaming handheld first and foremost. Between that and their resistance to doing a big price cut (which would also help their "remote play" strategy in a big way), I don't have much confidence in Sony's willingness to make that angle work anymore.
