The biggest mistake Nintendo made with WiiU is tying it to the the Wii in terms of branding.

I'm going to stop you right there. The vast majority of consumers are not stupid. If they think that the Wii U is an add-on to the Wii, then that's a fault on Nintendo's part in failing to correctly market the system, but it isn't because of the name. Consumers don't see "Wii U" and go "oh, that's an add-on for the Wii?" and keep walking past.

Unfortunately, gamers who spend a lot of time on the internet have a tendency to think themselves smart and the "mainstream market" to be stupid. This is very much a wrong impression. Even as gamers call out games like Just Dance as "casual crap", the mainstream have been very particular about which games they will play, very selective. Far moreso than gamers, as demonstrated, for instance, by the fact that Haze sold nearly a million copies, while No More Heroes on the PS3 sat at around 150,000 copies sold.

i was on board for most of this post until the weird game comparison, I think people are harping on this Wii U confusion because that is much easier than to simply accept the fact that people just dont care. I think some people dont understand but most of those people arent in the market for a game console anyway.

Dont know what Haze and NMH have to do with anything. Wouldnt those games prove the opposite of what you are saying, since neither of them came close to JD numbers? NMHs sold like that on PS3 because 1 it was a late port on a system with a much smaller install base of a game that IMHO wasnt that good to begin with and 2 there are MUCH better options for that type of game on PS3 anyway.
