Motion controls can improve the experience for certain types of games, but they are only one function of the Wiimote/Nunchuk configuration. The IR pointer improves pretty much every game that contains aiming and shooting. Even without using motion controls and the IR pointer, it's a very good controller. There was no good reason to ditch it as the standard controller. I play games with the controller that works best and that usually isn't the Gamepad. The same goes for the "hardcore controller" which is basically just a Gamepad without a screen. And yes, it's important to me that a console doesn't remind me of a filthy PC. It always pisses me off that I have to go through a 5-10 minutes long install after a 15-20 minutes long download. If I am downloading something, then I have obviously already made the decision that I will use said something. No need to separate the download and install. |
I agree that they should have taken the SNES to NES approach with Wii U. A refined Wii Remote would have been the way to go. A second Analogue stick incorporated in some way, perhaps a more rounded appearance with a couple extra buttons. Add the "8th" axis that the Gamepad has which orientates itself to the center of the earth (the Gamepad has outstanding gyro).
Then launch with a really upgraded Wii Sports 3, use the money saved on the Gamepad to up the power just a little more, and have all the titles ready to go a few months earlier. Would have been a much better approach.
