Can Pikmin 3 take the series to better sales?

It has barely 53,000 preorders with 8 weeks to go. If it tops a million it will be because of long legs. It might benefit in sales if the Wii U has a long period without many games into 2014. But, judging by the gamecube sales I say no reason to believe it sales will grow, or sell many consoles.
