Yeah, that's thing. That's just what Jon Stewart does.
Neither Nintendo or Apple likely paid him anything. However I bet he got something in the mail for both of them all the same.
Famous people have an inbred bias to do such things because when they mention a product off hand sometimes they end up getting stuff for free.
I can only imagine what you get sent as a thank you for mentioning your product on the oscars.
