OS can be easily *borrowed*. He wants to do it right not be a pirate. OS-$100 or if you go Linux then it could be $0 but tons of fucking headache.

You can take power supply and hard drive/solid state drive from your previous build mom. Can he borrow his mom's PS4 or use the PSU and BRD from his old PS3? Nope sooo... PSU ->$50 bucks (don't chince out on your PSU and $50 is still cheap), BRD-$50, Since you should be able to use the existing HDD from your old PS3 I'll give ya the HDD could be from an old build. But, I'm guessing that this would be a total new build.

So grand total = $620-720.

And to be honest this wouldn''t really do it for ya. You'd never get the PC 'advantage' of better visuals because you'd be setting all your GFX card settings to performance and your in game settings would be on medium maybe high and you'd get 30FPS at best on any of the next crop of games. You'd be looking to upgrade in a year or two at best. People who spend <$1000 are the ones screaming that people playing CoD and BF are hacking because their rigs don't run as well. Also you don't get the level of optimization you get on a console. PCs achieve their level of performance and fidelity through brute force and having a wimpy ass PC aint gonna do that.
