Usually I'd get around speaking English in the cities, but in rural areas I was actually able to get along by speaking Spanish. I was surprised at how many people understood the language. That's why I assumed most people in Brasil speak Spanish (also since it is surrounded by Spanish speaking countries). |
It's Portuguese... a lot of words are the same in Portuguese and Spanish... people here don't speak Spanish... when I travel to Argentina I talk in Portuguese and they understand too... Mexico same thing... the languages are similar... you were talking in Spanish and we in Portuguese and it is perfectly possible to understand.
