Definitely not essential or worth an extra $100, I would rather have it be optional.

- More trouble moving the console to a different room, which I do regularly
- Playing at night time voice commands defeat the purpose of headphones.
- I have kids, the thing will be moved / bumped into on a daily basis, the tv is too thin to put it on top.

Let it be like the ps eye which I can pull out and plug in when I want to do some motion gaming.

Watching your friends while playing might be nice for some people, not for me though, let it be optional. You could all buy $20 webcams too. And watching random people's reactions during play, no thanks, not after burnout paradise's butt shots.

If a user base of 20 million people that want Kinect isn't going to do it, why would a bigger user base, half of which will avoid the game or ignore the Kinect features do any better? Forcing it on everyone didn't do much for the Wii Mote or the Sixaxis, and isn't doing much for the WiiU gamepad so far. Why would Kinect be any different.

I personally think the standard touch pad on the ps4 controller can do more for games then Kinect in every box, although that will also be held back by multi-platform games.

I'm still interested in trying it out some time when the price comes down. I was tempted to buy a Kinect for $50 used currently, but with the xbox one around the corner I'll wait another 1-2 years to get the better version.
