it's even worse that you rage so much about it then. instead of being happy that they can develop a game with enough money, you complain that they don't risk to go bankrupt just to put millions in a game without knowing if it will be a success. asking a bank or similar investor for some money is a much worse idea.
if you are a small company like insomniac there are not many possibilities with the high dev costs nowadays. they could make small indie games for xbox arcade and psn, they could ask someone to buy insomniac or they try to find publishers for their games and this time, microsoft is the publisher. next game maybe sony or ubisoft...
sure, they could have made games for the same company for the rest of their lifes but maybe that's not what everyone wants...
