It was based on a sound business model that tried to maximize profits. No one should be fired for trying to maximize profits and taking risks.

They knew it was anti-consumer. Microsoft was just humbled by the fact that they cant tell their consumers what is the future or what they will like. The consumers can decide that for themselves. MS didnt need to screw with the used market and DRM lock their console, they chose to so the third parties wouldnt have to. Luckily this was a software issue and the preorders scared the shit out of them into backing down from DRM.
