The Giant is pretty much an alien death machine who gets bonked on the head and forgets that he's supposed to kill everyone.
Wait, so he's basically Goku.
Anyway, the movie focuses on his choice, how he doesn't have to be what he was intended to be and can decide for himself what he wants to be. So, like any reasonably-minded super-powered anything would do, he decides to be Superman.
