Theft isn't a thing in the digital world. It applies to the physical world because goods are scarce and when you have an apple, I can't have the same apple. You can give the apple, or we can trade for the apple, or I can steal it from you. Either way, I end up plus one apple, you end up minus one apple. This isn't true for digital and other non-scarce goods. When you and I trade ideas, we each have two ideas. |
when you and i can trade apples and both have two apples i'll change my mind. until then i firmly believe that the work i put into my computer to create the software a farmer wants to use is just as real and meaningful as the farmers work he put into creating an apple i want to eat. in either case the consumption of the other's work without fair compensation is wrong, unjust, and theft.
if you don't believe in intellectual property then i sincerly hope you never have an great idea. but with this sort of attitude towards intellecutal thought i'm guessing it's a safe bet you never will..
