Why is buying used games such a big deal nowadays?

Why can't gamers wait for the price of new game to drop instead of getting a used game. isn't the advantage of getting a used game is getting cheap? If that case why not wait a bit longer for the new game to drop in price. Is it really necessary to get the game as they arrive lol
