Those numbers line up with the dozens of anecdotes throughout this thread: |
Now, M$ could be using a clever strategy with that. By shipping a very small number of units to retail at the begining, that would (or at least should) cause the console to sell out pretty quickly. That could in turn entice more people to buy them, under the impression that the system is extremely popular, they now need one themselves, and will rush out to the store whenever a new stock comes in, at whcih, M$ (if they're smart) will have just a few more units sent out than last time, and, as this process wears on, will continue to steadily build up stock each time, causing the system to still sell out each time, and the sales will steadily grow. I believe Sony used a similar strategy with the PS3 launch, but it didn't exactly work out for them in the long run. Seeing as the PS4, having a much higher shiped number, is still out preordering the XBone, this will probably backfire severely on M$. Just my theory though.
