Sales haven't been affected by no-online for these types of games, so why start now?

I really don't get how anyone is defending this decision, but anyways that's a pretty lazy way of thinking lol. Just doing the bare minimum to recieve expected sales. Lazy lazy lazy! I always thought Nintendo wasn't like that. Oh, and online play certainly wouldn't hurt sales, so the real question is why not do it?

Because Nintendo is still first and foremost a company whose first priority is to ultimately make profits. The cost outweigh the benefits to have online, so they figured not to do it. Calling them lazy would be incorrect, but instead financially cautious would be a better description.
