Is 40GB really selling that much better?

Looking at American charts, the PS3 sold about 80k. Motorstorm sold about 10k.

So this means that of the 80,000 sold, only 10,000 were the 80Gb version (Even less if you count non-packaged sales of the game). Is the 40GB version really outselling it at a 8:1 ratio?
