DRM is no way "future proofs" the console. It is a completely unnecessary step in the evolution of gaming. MS is once again trying to push software to the consumers that they either don't want or aren't ready for at that time.
Besides your main point fails to recognize that this "future" won't come until at least 5 years (maybe more) down the road, and by then these purchases will be a lot cheaper than their initial release value. They are truly only doing this as way to extort more money out of people bottom line. Only after all the negative feedback did they try to come up with some more friendlier uses for DRM.
