It's perfectly fine that Nintendo creates many Platformers. They do it (very) well, and it seems like almost no one else in the industry pays anywhere near as much as Nintendo does to the genre.

Just because there is more of a focus on one genre doesn't mean Nintendo can't still work on/put effort into another.

But they really haven't been working on other genres. They have all but abandoned the racing genre besides Mario Kart. They don't have any FPS, which is fine by me, but it's still a gap in their library. No shooters really of any kind with the abandonement of Star Fox. They put minimal effort into RPG's.  They have one action series in Zelda which has been decreasing in quality for years, and Metroid is all but dead and buried.

Another problem with their focus on platformers, is that their has been a dip in quality for Mario. The NSMB games keep coming back with diminishing returns, and now they are making the first 3D Mario game I've ever seen that looks like a dud.
