Nintendo is a company with a vast range of unique IPs. They have platformers, action RPG's, strategy games, on rails shooters, simulations, fighters, etc.
The problem is, one section of their IP's is getting made: Platformers. It seems that is the only genre Nintendo is interested in these days. Let's look at the facts
SInce 2007, Nintendo has made 17 platformers across DS Wii Wii U and 3DS. 17 is a pretty big number. Now look toward the future, we already have 4 platformers announced for 2013-2014. Nintendo doesn't bother with any of their shooter franchises: (starfox, Metroid) or their racing franchises barring mario kart: (f-zero, wave race, 1080 snoboarding). It's seemingly all platformers lately, and it's really making me less enthusiastic about Nintendo systems. Heck, they even make an exclusive deal with Sega, and what do we get? Another platformer. I love platformers as much as the next guy, but it's exhausting to only get platformers. Nintendo needs to balance out their portfolio a bit more. Back in the Gamecube days, we got a little bit of everything. With third parties avoiding Nintendo like the plague, it's up to Nintendo to fill those gaps, and they are doing a poor job of it.
