But Nintendo now takes that stance because is not the market leader and has little 3rd party support. Back in the NES and SNES days Nintendo actually fought hard against the Game Rental Industry, they sued Blockbuster but lost at the end, although they did win the part about not being able to get the game booklet. |
Uhm, Nintendo is leading both the 7th AND 8th gen.

Really?? Wii has only 40% of the Market and WiiU's market share at this point is irrelevant. Handheld market yes, but the "used games" argument is most relevant to the console market.
Back in the NES/SNES days Nintendo was ALL AGAINST rental and used games.
|
Yet you still had Blockbuster carrying NES and SNES games back in the day.
|
Yes, because Nintendo lost the lawsuit. The only part of the lawsuit Nintendo won was that Blockbuster could not include the game manual with the rental.
|
I was just wondering... Do rental places have to pay more for the games or movie since they make a lot of money renting them out or do they just buy them at regular price?
|
It depends.
For movies the big rental chains have agreement with the movie studios ( well Blockbuster did), that is how they are able to get so many copies of newly released movies.( and in exchange the studios make money on rentals)
For games I do not believe there is any agreement, they buy games at regular price( which probably isn't the same price you and me pay, most likely they purchase from distributors) but publisher do not make any money on rentals.
PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !
PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
