It seems my one worry about the game, being it's balance, I wont have to be concerned with anymore. The whole 12 players and Bikes were what threw MKWii out of whack, so I was afraid of what would happen here. However, it wasn't just having twelve players itself, but also having uber busted herp derp items. So far, that doesn't seem to be the case in MK8. For reference these are the items we know about thus far:

Mushroom (and x3)

Banana (and x3)

Green Shell (and x3)

Red Shell (and x3)

Gold Mushroom

Fire Flower

Blooper (was in the item reel)

Bomb-omb (in the item reel)

Starman (staple, also in item reel)

Lightning (staple and in item reel)

Bullet Bill (staple)

Blue Shell (staple)

Fake Item Box? (I think I saw Mario with one in the trailer)

Hopefully the final line-up keeps the current MK7 level of balance intact. Also, you can see what items people have on the gamepad screen, so avoiding Blue Shells is still legit. We just have to hope it still travels along the ground. As for Bikes, they can power boost the same as Karts instead of doing wheelies, and thus far there aren't any inward drifting bikes. Basically the only difference thus far between Karts n Bikes is stats, with Bikes generally being lighter n slower but more agile and better acceleration, same as it was in MKWii. Hopefully they remain this way in the final version.
