it is not that they are out of touch it is that they were EXPECTING 3rd parties to signup, When they didn't they reacted quickly with subpar games like 3D mario to try and quickly get something up to feel the void. It would still appear they are hoping third parties sign up. They really need to accept they won't unless there is money involved.
Instead they should have tried to get more 3rd party exclusives via funding projects like they have with platinum to create new IPs to fill the gaps (i.e, FPS, racing sim, sports, fighters) third party left with mature titles. Also create some new studios.
