Super Mario 3D World doesn't have that spark that Galaxy has. It looks ok, and it will most likely be really fun (All 3D Mario games are) but it didn't have anything really special that screamed "Wii U is amazing!".

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze shall be just as fun as Returns, but it's not a title that serves to differentiate the console from anything that came before... More of the same, some would say. I am fine with sequels of great games, and I wouldn't have any problem with that game if the console didn't need some actual games that set the Wii U truly apart from the rest, even from the Wii.

Mario Kart 8. Eight. It will be fun, polished and all that... But it basically suffers from the same sentiment as DKCTF... No differentiating factor here.

Wind Waker HD... It looks as good as ever. But we've already played that game years ago. People who enjoyed that game on the Cube will most likely pick it up (I sure will), but again... Nothing new. Nothing that screams "the Wii U is where it's at".

X. Yes, X. The only game from that Direct that actually deserves praise. It looks stunning, fun and extremely promising. Sadly though, it caters to a niche and won't help sell the console all that much.

I know I'm forgetting some games... Smash? Yeah... that series is evolving at baby steps at best. Fun, but as far as I'm concerned, only in small doses.

Yes, this Direct was underwhelming. No new Metroid, no real new Zelda for the Wii U. No new creative IPs.

But I wasn't expecting much from them. All in all, a good chance X was present. That game looks awesometacular.

My thoughts exactly.  They all look like fun, but my gaming time is (severely) limited and I haven't finished SMG, or DKCR and since there's really nothing 'new' here, there's no reason to rush out to get a WiiU this year.    I still play Mario Kart and Brawl at times and the new versions look great but not really different enough (so far).  What will ultimately sell me on those is superior online (Wii's is terrible for both titles) and my friends also getting a WiiU for them so I have people to play against other than random stranger.   Otherwise I'm fine replaying Wii's versions.     Although I gotta try fighting with Wii Fit Trainer, that's too funny.

And then there's the gamepad - the WiiU's distinquishing feature.  Not seeing anything in any of these titles that says, 'you've got to try this with the gamepad'.  So be fair, SMG's and Brawls use of motion were minimal (but both had other new exciting features - gravity/worlds and online/3rd party chartacters respectively) but motion on Kart, Metroid, Zelda:TP were a big deal and something to get excited about.  I've yet to see a single Nintendo game on WiiU that creates that sort of interest/excitement in the gamepad's features (yes including NintendoLand).
