Super Mario 3D World doesn't have that spark that Galaxy has. It looks ok, and it will most likely be really fun (All 3D Mario games are) but it didn't have anything really special that screamed "Wii U is amazing!".

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze shall be just as fun as Returns, but it's not a title that serves to differentiate the console from anything that came before... More of the same, some would say. I am fine with sequels of great games, and I wouldn't have any problem with that game if the console didn't need some actual games that set the Wii U truly apart from the rest, even from the Wii.

Mario Kart 8. Eight. It will be fun, polished and all that... But it basically suffers from the same sentiment as DKCTF... No differentiating factor here.

Wind Waker HD... It looks as good as ever. But we've already played that game years ago. People who enjoyed that game on the Cube will most likely pick it up (I sure will), but again... Nothing new. Nothing that screams "the Wii U is where it's at".

X. Yes, X. The only game from that Direct that actually deserves praise. It looks stunning, fun and extremely promising. Sadly though, it caters to a niche and won't help sell the console all that much.

I know I'm forgetting some games... Smash? Yeah... that series is evolving at baby steps at best. Fun, but as far as I'm concerned, only in small doses.

Yes, this Direct was underwhelming. No new Metroid, no real new Zelda for the Wii U. No new creative IPs.

But I wasn't expecting much from them. All in all, a good chance X was present. That game looks awesometacular.

Exactly my thoughts. I was really waiting for a new Galaxy-esque Mario game. I remember how I felt after seeing the first Galaxy game on the Wii, adn it was pure magic. This looks solid, it looks fun, but it looks more like an expanded 2D game. It's very similar to the 3DS which was one of my favourite mario games but that's the thing, it looks like SM3D Land HD. It looks fun, but it doesn't have the feel of a console game and that in my opinion is so so disappointing. I honestly hope they do release a big MArio game, but getting one every year is starting to get monotonous and I doubt they will release another Mario game which is frankly so disappointing.

It's such a shame as well, SMG and SMG2 are one of the best games of last gen, and I have always tried to imagine how they'd look in Hd and how a stronger system can take MArio to another level, yet they've managed to somehow downgrade it.

I honestly hope I'm wrong, and I have to admit the game is not as bad as my initial impressions were. It genuinly looks fun, but you'd expect Nintendo to go all out and design a fantabulous magical huge 3D Mario game on the Wii U, I hope that happens. In all honesty I'm just glad they're doing so well with the 3DS.
