Well, I could see Nintendo succeeding if they went multiplatform. They do have killer games and a lot of second-party studios working for them. I doubt that will ever happen though thanks mostly to their handheld dominance even though Wii U sales are weak. Maybe in ten years, we will see this happen, but for now it will be a pipedream for every non-Nintendo fan.
