I feel that when I break it down that way, it becomes pretty simple. Neither EA nor Ubisoft demonstrated the breadth of software that Nintendo did -- Mario 3D World, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Wind Waker HD, Wii Fit, Wii Party, Xenogame, Smash Bros. Bam, practically every genre hit. 3D platformer, 2D platformer, kart racer, hack-n'-slash, action/adventure, party game, fitness game, RPG, fighting game. No shooters -- but after an entire day full of shooters, I think a lot of people were tired of seeing them. Best of all, I have confidence that most of those games will be nothing short of outstanding.
And bear in mind that while talking about Nintendo as a games publisher, 3DS games are on the table... so Pokémon, Mario & Luigi, and Zelda 3DS.
Even compared to Microsoft and Sony's first-party offerings, I thought Nintendo kicked ass. But as far as selling their console goes, they couldn't hold a candle to Sony. Microsoft is a little more iffy -- while they showed a lot of games, several of them seemed to be of dubious quality, there's a lot of negativity surrounding the console, and the $500 price point isn't going to help.
But Nintendo had practically NOTHING to show from third parties, and Sony dominated as a platform-seller.
Well, as a home console seller. Sorry, Vita owners.
