ugh no. They get criticized for online pay and Vita handling. New IPS? Hell no Let me list a few things for you TLOU = a new IP from their most acclaimed studio. A story driven take on the zombie genre which is currently one of the highest rated games of all time. Knack = a new IP from a creator who has been part of franchises like Crash, Jak and many more in the past Puppetteer = new IP and a very creative title from SCEJ Rain = Same as above The Order = A new IP in a steam punk london, in an alternative reality setting, from SSm and R@D GGs = Yes they have a new KZ but as you can see it's a very different take than the past games. But ignore that for a moment. They also have one unannounced new IP. Word is that's a Gamescom reveal. Speculation is that it's an action WRPG DriveClub = A team based/first person view focused new driving IP from Evolution. They are pretty big so don't be surprised if they have even more projects unannounced Even games like Second Son. It's not playing it safe. Total new setting, character, a unique new power. So No...new IPs are NOT something they should be criticized for. And I haven't even talked about second party stuff like Quantic Dreams unannounced new IP for the PS4 I don't think anyone who actually look at these things and say that with a straight face that Sony doesn't bring new IPs to the table that get people excited. |
If anything, my problem with Sony is that they have too many IPs. Apparently too many to revisit at least once a generation.
And I can levy that claim against Nintendo, too, but at least they still own all of their best game properties.
