Even the Sonic exclusivity was somewhat of a bomshell.  This direct had little if anything shocking/amazing.  Titles like Kart and Mario and DK were at best solid but at worst unoriginal.  I guess the biggest thing close to a bomshell is that DK is coming early this fall.  That's quick and exciting if you really needed a new DK this soon after the last one, and after NSMBU.

DKC is so much better than New Super Mario Bros. it's not even funny.

Sure, but it would be nice if Nintendo could do a differnt genre once in a while.  DK would have been great in a couple years, but so far on Wii U we've got, NSMBU, NSLU, DK and Yarn Yoshi coming sometime soon.  SM3DW looks to be more like 2D Mario than Galaxy as well.  I want some variety, some action/adventure that Nintendo should be kings of.  WWHD looks nice and it's a day1 for me, but it's still an old title and still a Zelda.  I would have liked a Metroid.  I would have loved something totally new.  We need some variety.

I understand what you're saying, but I can also see where Nintendo is coming from. Wii U needs multi-million sellers more than anything else right now.

The problem is I don't think that's the case.  It needs attention-getters, games that make buzz.  NSMB, DK, MK, these titles sell boatloads to people that already have the system because they are fun and accessible and hit a wide audience.  But they're not dramatic or shocking.  Wii had titles like Wii Sports, motion-swinging Zelda:TP and Mario Galaxy that were like nothing people had seen before.  Once people picked up the system NSMB, MK and DK took over as solid if not flashy titles that everyone loves.  Wii U doesn't yet have a single title that is flashy, even 3D World, though it does look like a very good game.  Without something flashy, PS and X1 will get more attention simply due to their much larger libraries, variety and better visuals/high-end image.

I personally thought Nintendo delivered both. Good buzz about X in particular, being compared to the FFXV reveal and what-not. Then there's Bayonetta 2, which is the epitome of flashy.

Could always use more though. I won't argue with you on that. It takes a lot to get the spotlight off on the newer consoles.
