I think it's important to remember that Microsoft probably doesn't really care about "winning" when it comes to total units sold, at least not like many of the fans. Microsoft is looking to maximize profit from the XO as a primary goal, and to transition it into an adjacent space. If that means dropping some gamer support, they'll likely take that as a trade-off.
