The PSP is great. I've been a DS owner for a long time but picked up a PSP with the price cut. To me, the PSP is a better machine. I put off buying one for so long because people say it lacks games and I believed them, but, once I got one and started looking around, there are a lot more games than people make it sound. I've bought a bunch and even rented some from Blockbuster, which doesn't carry DS stuff.
"Loco Roco" is not usually the sort of game I like, but I can't help going back to it now and again. It's certainly addictive.
You're not going to be able to carry "Tekken" or "Mortal Kombat" around with you without a PSP.
"Killzone: Liberation" is not a bad top-down shooter.
"Dungeon Siege" is a good game. Yeah, I was surprised a title usually associated with Microsoft was on a Sony product. That's not the only one. "Stacked (with Daniel Negreanu)" is also by Microsoft.
That leads me to a very important (to me) category of games: Poker. The PSP has a great selection: "World Series of Poker"; "World Series of Poker - Tournament of Champions"; "World Poker Tour" (though it has some terrible load times); the aforementioned "Stacked", among others.
"Megaman Powered Up" is a remake that is better than the original, though, if you prefer the original, it's on there too. Similarly, Capcom released an updated "Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins".
"Darkstalkers Chronicle" is great. It is a combo of the original Darkstalkers, Darkstalkers: Night Warriors and Darkstalkers 3, along with a new single player "Tower" mode. Some reviewers on Amazon say there is a problem with the controls, but I had no problem at all. They were as responsive as this next game...
"Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max". It's Street Fighter Alpha 3 with all the Street Fighter characters, including the New Challengers (Cammy, Fei Long, THawk).
Puzzle games: "Exit"; "Lumines"; "Lumines II"; "Puzzle Quest"; "Capcom Puzzle Collection" (which includes "Super Puzzle Fighter II").
Other compendiums like "Sega Dreamcast Collection" (which includes games like "Comix Zone", "Shinobi III", "Golden Axe", "Golden Axe II", "Golden Axe III", "Phantasy Star II", "Phantasy Star III", "Phantasy Star IV") and "Namco Museum Battle Collection" (which includes remakes of classics like "Pacman", "Dig Dug" and "Galaga").
I can recommend "Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror". The "SOCOM" games are good too. There's also "Metal Gear" (regular as in "Portable Ops", card-based as in the "Acids" and a "Digital Graphic Novel" version). There's "Medal of Honor". There are two "Grand Theft Auto" games. There's "Chili Con Carnage", "Ratchet & Clank", "Daxter". If you like to hunt monsters, there's "Monster Hunter Freedom". If you prefer to raise them, there's "Monster Kingdom Jewel Summoner". There's "Tales of Eternia", "Sid Meier's Pirates", "Lego Star Wars II", and "Futuristic Harvest Moon" for the kid in you.
There are the obligatory NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, golf, tennis and boxing titles. There's also the "Burnout" series and "Twisted Metal".
These are just some of the better games available now for the system. There are 100's PSP titles out there. I don't know the exact number, but Amazon shows 474 results when I click on "Show All Games" for PSP, though I'm sure some of results are PSP accessories and not games. Anyway, what sorts of games do you like? Maybe I can make a recommendation or two.
I originally bought my DS for the "Brain Age" game, based on all the hype about that. I played that for a few days and got tired of it, ending up using it primarily for "Sudoku". There aren't a lot of games that interest me on the DS. I like the two "Castlevania"s, which is why "Dracula X Chronicles" and "Symphony of the Night" on the PSP are going to rock. I have played "Mario" for like two decades now. I am so sick of that franchise. I beat "Trauma Center" and played some "Final Fantasy III". There are some games that overlap with PSP offerings, in which case I prefer the PSP's because of the
larger screen and better graphics. Generally, I hate the stylus...or rather the forced implementations of the touchscreen on most of the games. Believe it or not, the next cartridge I was looking forward to on the DS was the web browser, but now that I have a PSP, I don't need that anymore as the PSP can wirelessly surf the web right out of the box, though the stylus would have been nice for that. I suppose "Ninja Gaiden" is the next DS game I'm looking forward to then. I'll probably also try out the "Zelda" game people keep talking about.
