In my opinion, putting the game in 3rd person perspective would ruin the atmosphere.
As that ship or whatever SMASHES into the the pedestrian tube, water pours in everywhere...you have to walk into the plane and then back down into the hallway again, as water pours all around you. It'd take away so much if it was in 3rd person.
