The 24-hour online check thing is the only thing that really bugs me about X1 at this point. It's just overkill... all they need to do here is implement the current check system that they have on the 360, where if you launch a game or app while the system is connected to the internet, it does a quick update search, and will require you to download it or else be signed out of XBL. If you are offline you can play whatever games you want, barring any online play of course, as well as being unable to receive the latest patches or DLC for your games.
The 24-hour online check does nothing to stop piracy, because the first thing people are going to do is to mod the system to work around it, and if people are going to mod the console anyway, odds are they're doing it to play pirated games, so you're only hurting / inconveniencing the people who purchased games and who want to use and enjoy the console legally in the first place with the 24-hour check.
