I own many Sony products, and basically it comes down to value for me. If the products don't give me what I want, and their company policies don't appeal to me, I don't buy their products or services. Just so you understand me better, I don't own a smartphone (I own a Ericsson W810i with internet turned off), and I'll never buy an Iphone. I don't do Facebook and other social medial sites. I like some level of privacy. Most of the younger generation embraces the social network without actually realizing how much of their identity they are giving up.
Nevertheless, I'm not going to try to change other people; that is not my job or responsibly, and frankly I don't care what others do unless it will hurt me or others. This DRM issue has a potential to do so, and so, I'm conflicted. The younger tech-savvy generation doesn't understand what the big deal is, and if that is the case, I rather not preach to them of their future sorrows. They will eventually know the consequences. What will I do? I will do the only thing the I can do. I can boycott a product/service it doesn't appeal to me. That's how I vote, with my purchasing power.
Now to the question: Would I buy a PS4 or any other Sony product if I didn't like the company practices? My answer is no. There is still a good deal of competition out there, I'm looking at Nintendo right now just in case Sony tries to underhand one over me, and I believe they still can. I don't put it past any company to change their policies because it no longer suits them, and so I would never defend bad actions of a company just because I like their products/services. It's not in my nature.
Another good reason to wait a year after launch to see which of these video consoles appeals to me.
