"At a roundtable this morning, Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that." (Emphasis added.) Apologies for missing that during our attempts to clarify just how similar or dissimilar Sony's next-gen policies are from Microsoft's."

(Online registration? Sounds like Online passes to me...)

On top of that...

Does the PlayStation 4 always need to be connected to the internet, I asked?

"You can play offline, but you may want to keep it connected," he suggested. "The system has the low-power mode - I don't know the official term - that the main system is shut down but the subsystem is awake. Downloading or updating or you can wake it up using either the tablet, smartphone or PS Vita."

Are all of those things optional, though? For people who have broadband data limits, for example? They can customise everything?

"Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally. Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don't want to connect to anyone else, you can do that."

Michael Denny So I think two of the other pillars we talked about in-terms of design were simplicity and immediacy. Even taking back a step from here, PlayStation 4 can still be enjoyed old school without an Internet connection at all.

AND...

http://www.gamespot.com/news/sony-rules-out-always-online-for-ps4-report-6408071

Sony president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, said that a constant Internet connection would not be required from users, given the differences in web services available across the globe.

Did we consider it? No, we didn’t consider it," said Yoshida. "The main reason being that many countries don’t have robust Internet connections. It makes sense for people to have Internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw [that] do not really have robust Internet.”

So, online registration is up to the publishers and online isn't required... If someone without an internet connection puts their used game in the publishers would never know. For those of you saying Sony has dodged questions they have been straight forward since the reveal. They have never changed their answers. I don't believe Sony ever planed to implement DRM. I don't know where this site wide notion has come from.

As for used games,

Speaking with Forbes, Bartel said, “Both Sony and Microsoft have said games can be resold and that’s exactly what we anticipated"

In news that should keep parties going until the early morning at Gamestops everywhere, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida tells Eurogamer that used games will still play on the PlayStation 4.

If sony were going to use the watermark patent (which sites reported Sony denied it was for the Ps4) then how could they say used games would work... Especially since they don't require the internet. How the hell could they possibly enforce it? I'll give you a hint... they cant.

Now, I'm not saying Ps4 won't have DRM... it may possibly have it. But right now there is absolutely zero evidence to suggest they even thought about it. Until we get something to say otherwise I will not be worried about it. All the speculation that EA dropping online passes supports this is just illogical assumptions. Stop spreading the rumor because it really is baseless.

PS - Don't panic.
