Interview with Yoshida:
http://www.cinemablend.com/games/It-Official-PS4-Feature-Used-Game-DRM-Like-Xbox-One-56264.html

"This clears up a few things:
1.) The PlayStation 4 can play games offline without having to be online. This was clarified the day of the PS4's reveal back on February 20th.
2.) Sony will not have any mandatory DRM for used games. You can buy, play, trade used games on the PlayStation 4 just as usual. No additional registration fees, pay-walls or internet registration required.
3.) If you so choose, you can play games from disc, download them from the digital store orremote load them. Sony doesn't mandate any method over the other for multi-format titles.
4.) Just for extra clarification the PlayStation 4 does not and will not require a constant always-on internet connection. "

The more interesting bit comes from the source (Kotaku), a Sony representative saying that Sony won't provide additional clarification beyond what they said back at the PS4 reveal. What you quoted above is the interpretation of some guy who'd like these things to be true. So there won't be mandatory DRM, that much we already knew. But that doesn't mean that "you can buy, play, trade used games on the PS4 just as usual" when a publisher chooses to apply DRM to their game (which they are free to do, according to Sony).

The fact that Sony doesn't want to offer additional clarification should be seen as a red flag. It's likely that they are still debating how they will deliver the full story for how DRM will work on their console and what limitations it will bring to gamers. It has already blown up in Microsoft's face, so Sony is very cautious about this issue.

Third parties were always free to put up their own clients on their discs (Origin, Ubisoft & Activision) Yoshida already said there is no DRM. What is there not to understand about that? Third parties will have to create a client that policies gamers depending on whether the game is used or not. Sony said...you can play your games as usual. Microsoft did the work for them....Sony isn't doing it, so they will have to fuck over the consumers themselves.
