Yeah, if you move the console around a lot, having to also move Kinect will be a pain in the but along with the power brick. I use to do this a lot in my home as well so I know where you are coming from. I am sure MS never thought about that or if they did probably got left on the design floor of "Do not care" pile.
With Slot loading I do not see an issue with having it on the side but the thing is huge so it might not be practical
