You realize this is the same policy as it was on PS2, right? The means have been there ever since consoles went online, the only difference was it was generally only MMOs that did it then, but they were still fully capable and could've just as easily done it for single player games. They can do it just as easily on the Wii U through the same methods as always, and if western 3rd party support doesn't completely die out there, that's realisticaly what you're going to start seeing, perhaps starting with Watch Dogs.
