Even when they don't sell as many consoles they still make profit or more profit than competition. Sony and Microsoft wish they could make as much profit in the video game industry. Nintendo subscribes to a difference business model. Sure Nintendo started selling their consoles for a small loss (3DS after price cut and Wii U) but they are about to return to profitability. Sony and Microsoft can't even come close to Nintendo's profits in the video game industry.
