Well firstly, let me say again that the decision to put SSB4 on both consoles came before the Wii U even released. It was the 3DS that was underperforming at that time, and they probably assumed the Wii U would get more third party support than it did and not have delays on it's launch window games like it did.

Secondly, by the time SSB4 comes out, I think it's safe to say the Wii U will be consistently selling decently enough, what with Mario Kart, Super Mario, Wii Fit, among other games and a possible price cut.

Thirdly, you need a constant stream of games to consistently sell consoles, so yes the 3DS can always use more games just like every system. Look what happened to the Wii after Nintendo stopped supporting it, look at the Wii U now. Infact the 3DS also had this issue, hence SSB4 on the system.

Lastly, as said many times already, SSB4 will still sell plenty of Wii Us, perhaps not as many as it would without a 3DS version, but still a good amount that should keep the system selling decently enough until the next game. Like I said in my second post on this thread, as long as the systems sell enough to keep getting supported until a new console comes out, then we as gamers/consumers shouldn't fuss over the sales as there's nothing more in it for us.

You make good points.

If the games are at least different to a degree, it wouldn't be much of a problem.

It still remains though that Smash is one of Nintendo's biggest console sellers, so the decision not to keep it exclusive, while made at a time when the Wii U hadn't crashed yet, could bite them on the bum for lack of foresight. The 3DS has third party support to keep it afloat, Wii U doesn't.

Nah, they'll be fine, they always are. ;)

This is a consumer friendly move and it'll make Nintendo more dough so we should all be rejoicing!
