And that's with a one year headstart and a bunch of JRPG exclusvies. They won't have that advantage this time around with both consoles coming out around the same time. I'm not even sure if Microsoft will even care about the Japanese market anymore. They spent all that money last gen trying to tap into the Japanese market and still only managed 1.5 million units sold. It's almost not worth it from a financial standpoint. Japan is a shrinking market anyway. They should just concentrate on NA and EU. |
Did any JRPG's release on the 360 in 2006? Enchanted Arms, okay, but what else? Infinite Undiscovery was a 2008 game, and Lost Odyssey oh wow December 2007 for Japan.
You're probably right, Japan is not a good investment for MS, but it's not like a good JRPG exclusive doesn't appeal to gamers in other regions. One of my friends who recently bought a 360 told me that Lost Odyssey was one of his largest insentives (mainly because we beat every Gears/Halo co-op)
I think 500,000-1 million people in Japan will buy a One just because they are the type of people who own all the home consoles. A JRPG will just be a good reason to own a 360, and it gives the 360 a more diverse lineup. Realistically, Halo will probably help the 360 as much as a JRPG would.
Still 1 good JRPG would be nice. Maybe Square Enix could make a MP JRPG also MP in Japan too.
