You're right, Smash Bros. isn't a handheld game... yet. ;)
They were probably thinking of giving us more options, expanding the SSB audience, and making more money.
Lastly, what may be fun or not fun to you isn't the same for everyone. You must remember that no single person is the center of the universe and not everyone thinks the same way.
