ATTENTION, ATTENTION

NO FREE CONSOLE MMO CAN EXIST UNLESS THE DEVELOPER TAKES THE SERVER COSTS OUT OF ITS OWN POCKET!

Thanks for listening. There is this MMO for PS3 the Agency or whatever that was...I think that's free to play...but they recover server costs through downloadable content I believe. But otherwise, Sony's fronting the cost I think. No normal third party company can pay for an MMO out of their own pocket...that does not make sense!!

So again, people that say oh, Wii should be free online. IT IS, this is not Xbox Live where you have to pay to play a simple online FPS or something like that. But no system can reasonably support an MMO with all the requirements they take without taking a fee from users. Unless Nintendo paid for all third party servers, Nintendo needs to support a way for third parties to charge for MMOs.

It's either make a system for developers to charge customers fees for certain content, or those developers will not make said content, because it would be in no way profitable for them to do so.

That's why you don't get a new TF2 map on 360 and PS3...it would take a considerable cost to put those maps on the consoles, and it's not worth it to Valve to do it, unless they charged for it. But of course...not enough people would probably pay for 1 map...so I doubt they'll ever do it.

*cough*GuildWars*cough*

Guild Wars is so not "free." It's cheaper than WoW, certainly, but hardly free. They've had four expansion packs in the 2+ years the game has existed, not to mention the original game. It doesn't add up to 156 dollars a year, as WoW does, but it's not too far off either. It's a trick of the eye.

Hypothetical question. Which is better, a game where you pay 10 dollars a month that updates all content for free, or a game that has no monthly subscription but has 2 expansion packs a year for 59.99? Answer: it's exactly the same price, so it just depends on whose content you prefer.
