Now I think the Wii U is awesome. Hell even the OUYA is starting to look good. But seriously the best you can do is buy a gaming PC instead of the PS4 or the Xbox One.

You actually just quoted the reason why Wii-U is not next-gen, aside of it being underpowered. Offering backwards compatibility forces you to use a similair architecture and holds back change. The game developing industry really wanted X86 to make things easier, Sony and Microsoft delivered, Nintendo didn't.
