Obviously it's easier for third parties and therefore ensures (theoretically, look at GameCube) better third party support, which helps consumers avoid software droughts, but I think the industry would be a better place if different specification consoles were accepted and even encouraged. Why shouldn't Wii U exist and prosper alongside PS4 and Xbox One? Wii U doesn't need every major console blockbuster to be a success, and every multi-format blockbuster doesn't need Wii U to be a success, but Wii U does need a more consistent release slate and a greater variety of games. If it gets the Nintendo, Warner Bros and Ubisoft blockbusters (maybe Activision too, EA are obviously out in terms of major support), a range of middle tier projects from Japanese developers and smaller Western developers, as well as a great range of indie content, then it will develop a strong software library. The problem is the industry can't seem to fathom this, and believes that only "triple A" budget titles can succeed and has to continue to be the primary focus. Different specification hardware encourages diversity which encourages competition, and I think the industry would be better off if Wii U can take off and garner more support. |
Thank you! So many people can't seem to grasp this.
