Nintendo already do that

Sony is definitely going to pull ahead in indy games this gen. Nintendo is trying.
They definitely didn't do it before. Nor do we know what MS is actually doing.
The devs just said what MS is doing, ignoring indy devs without publishing. This means more games and more possible diamonds in the rough for Sony. Hell Sony might even fund some of their games.
You do know MS publishes many games on Xbox Live, right?
See for yourself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_published_by_Microsoft_Studios
If MS said they were no longer publishing indie games, that would be another story.
I know this, but thats old news. MS has been pissing off indy devs for a while now, this is just another level of pissed off. As I said before, they made them pay them to put their games on Xbox Live and they had to raise money just to get it on Live, then they blocked them off recently and told them they have to have a publisher and I am guessing now its only select publishers because not all the publishers can meet the lofty goals of Xbox Live. This means...the way Indy games started for MS...Sony will most likely start out that way. The tables are turning and its only because Sony keeps and open mind whilst MS gets more stringent. Valve was even talking about this with MS closed system and making cross platform games.
Well what we know for certain MS has supported plenty of indie developers and even seeks them out. What noteworthy indie games on Live don't have a publisher? Can't be many.
MS doesn't even attempt to own the IPs they publish like Sony has. Which might a big reason many of them opted for MS over Sony. http://www.edge-online.com/news/sony-lost-limbo-deal-because-it-wanted-ip-rights/
Sony has to change what they've been doing because they all keep going to MS.
When Sony publishes indy games....they send their own in house studios to help the company co-create the games unlike Microsoft. They make the process more creative easier and more seamless.....not harder.
Sony should definitely change that, just throw money at that them with no creative input.
Ofcourse Sony sends their own studios to help, they want input on their new property. Its just a different situation.
They make the process easy for developers. Almost as if its not their property anymore. :-p
Anyhow, we don't really know what impact this news will have since we didn't see many games without publishers to begin with. Any games Sony seeks out they'll likely want to publish as well, just like MS.
