Yes, consoles are comparable to phones and tablets.

I dont think Nintendo and Microsoft got the memo on the distinction. The only one who has stayed away from cellphone or tablet influence is Sony.

Yep, Nintendo and MS are trying to reach out to smartphone and tablet customers...

MS is already in the phone tablet business and Nintendo came out with a touch screen system many years before WiiU, plus they've already said they started experimenting with a touchscreen controller for Wii's successor before the smartphone/tablet craze.

Point is the market doesn't see consoles and Smartphones/tablets in the same way. Consoles are largely seen as a luxury while the latter have become almost a neccessity and part of everyday life.

Well, it's not seen as necessary, but still, it's hard to find a home without console in EU/NA/Japan
