I'd have no problem with this IF in fact Sony and M$ along with 3rd parties follow Steams's lead and aggressively price games, rather than every single "retail release" (AAA or not) have a fixed MSRP at $60. They are essentially cutting out the middle man here, so there's no reason to charge $60 for 95% of games.

Also... I've had no problem with paying for XBL in the past because it's been a great service, but if going forward you have to not only pay all of these premiums like a "used game" fee or other such fees, but also pay a monthly rate just to get the basics that XBL offers, then M$ has seriously overestimated what the average consumer is willing to spend on a device that primarily plays games.

Don't forget disolitude.. while you rightly praise the possibility that this will open up the path to aggressive pricing by developers and publishers on consoles, on the other hand the entry fee to console gaming has also steeply increased for the average consumer just by the simple fact that without an internet connection, and a damn good one at that, the console will be all but useless. You won't even be able to play the boxed games you purchased at retail without an online connection to verify the installation and link it to your profile. So this could all add up pretty quickly for the average consumer before they've even gotten a change to pop in their first game.

I expect a lot of clarity to come for this at e3. they have to implement a method which allows for game installs without internet connection. I suspect it will most likely involve keeping the game in the bluray drive while gaming much like you do with current gen and somesort of a phone authentication lol

LoL @ "phone authentication".  Sweet, I can't wait to order some PPV movies and events through my Xbox 1!

You may laugh and I would too had I not had to do a phone activation for Windows 7 and 8 twice in the last 6 months. Hard drive swap and motherboard failure made it so had to call in and read a massive code to match to the code of my license...etc. Anywho its a lot more sohisticated than you may think.

I've had to do that twice when wiping out my old Dell and reinstalling Windows XP a few years back, so I know how much of a pain in the ass it is.  I just got a chuckle at the idea of having to plug a land-line into the new Xbox to authenticate games or other content if you don't have access to an internet connection lol.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
